Flora and Fauna

While I love taking all kinds of pictures, I seem to gravitate towards landscape photography. I love the colors and shadows and depth of large, busy scenes and of simple, intense ones.

Within those landscapes,  I am finding the most beautiful things.

Beauty in the strangest faces.

Even surprisingly sweet faces…

I have always loved visiting zoos and aquariums, even though I always feel bad for the animals in captivity. I imagine they are treated very well and their digs usually look pretty plush.

At the Newport Aquarium, there was a Penguin Encounter which was an additional admission price to general admission. I have always loved penguins, so it was not something to pass up.

Penguins are playful little things, easily distracted and a bit mean to the babies in the group. They like shoelaces, jewelry and any straps or strings on clothing. They are curious yet selective in their exploration, interested in anything that moves.

No matter how old I get, I never tire of the sounds and sights of a zoo…

Magnitude.

There are moments in life when we become clearly aware of our size … and how small that actually is.

Perspective

A pretty gate in Bar Harbor Maine. It looked old and decrepit in person but the picture seems to make it a lovely, quaint little scene.

Sometimes the most beautiful things come from the unexpected…

Birthdays are great. Once you get past the whole “I am getting old…” trauma, birthdays are actually quite fun. Heres why:

  • People bring you food.
  • It’s an excuse to be lazy.
  • You get the first and last piece of cake.
  • You get spanked (this can be good or bad)
  • Presents!
  • You are alive.

The last one is the real kicker for me, though it shouldn’t take a birthday to remember that. Every single day you wake up is a gift and it should be appreciated.

Time to celebrate with friends. Cake and raspberries and chocolate bars await!

Waterfalls

I always have a hard time photographing waterfalls. As I am learning about all the wonderful and complex settings on my Olympus E-510, I struggle with shutter speed the most.

This is a waterfall at Cove Springs in Frankfort Kentucky. Its a great hour hike around the loop and this water fall is at the beginning.

Hiking has become outdoor therapy for me. I love the way nature smells and sounds.

Introduction

Deciding on a blog name is rather difficult. I tried to be witty and creative, simple and direct but all I could come up with was a hybrid word that I blurted out one day while in a hurry.

Dramastic. That pretty much sums up the complexity that is me.

I love to travel, adore nature and being outdoors. I love photography and am developing my skills slowly. I am an accountant by job but it doesnt suit me. I believe in fate and destiny, true love and the Easter Bunny. Family is the center of my universe. I crave to be a nomad in my later years but hope to open a business in the next five. Sense of smell is, by far, my favorite nostalgic channel. Chocolate should be a food group. Sunshine invigorates me. I am a gamer. Always need something to look forward to.

I am a New Englander by heart and love all that is northern.

Pictures, thoughts, ponderings, rants and silliness to follow.
